Steve White (Founder)

👋 I’m Steve, a Director of Learning and experienced teacher based in Kent, and the creator of CPD in 5. After over thirteen years in the classroom — teaching History, Politics, and working with fantastic students and colleagues — I know how tough it is to find time for meaningful professional development.

That’s where CPD in 5 comes in.

Each week, I share one big idea rooted in educational research, designed to take just five minutes to read and apply. No slideshows. No jargon. Just practical, evidence-informed strategies that work in real schools.

Why I started CPD in 5:

Too often, CPD is time-consuming, one-size-fits-all, or disconnected from what teachers actually need. As someone passionate about education research and making it accessible, I wanted to create something that respects your time and sharpens your practice.

Whether you’re an ECT, a head of department, or somewhere in between, CPD in 5 is built for you:

  • One idea each Monday morning

  • Research-backed, but classroom-ready

  • Designed to fit into a busy teacher’s week

A bit about me:

Outside the newsletter, I blog on our main website, speak at education conferences (such as ResearchEd), and share ideas on leadership, curriculum, and pedagogy. I’ve worked across a range of roles in secondary schools, and I’m always exploring how we can make CPD better, fairer, and more meaningful.

Thanks for being here — and welcome to the CPD in 5 community.
